This is the day we flew out to San Francisco. My very first plane flight. I'll admit that I cried on our first take off (we changed planes in Chicago) - it was a combination of anxiety (first[!] plane flight / first time leaving Mom), guilt (leaving Mom - what if something happens?), relief, and a smidgen of terror. After that I just thought of flying as a necessary evil, and something that's worth doing to see things I can't see by car. Landing - well, that will always scare me. It's like Woody says in Toy Story - "You're not flying. You're falling - with style." Landing is a controlled crash, and not something I enjoy. I _did_ enjoy looking out of the window and seeing mountains, fields, and rivers. I missed the Mississippi both times, but I'll just have to pay better attention next time.

Mountains!
I am sad that I missed flying over the Mississippi. This is the farthest I've ever been from home, so I was super excited. I loved seeing America from cloud level!
We did what we needed to do to make sure we'd have time to drive up the coast to Bodega Bay. We're both _HUGE_ The Birds fans, so we HAD to see Bodega Bay.
I got a little queasy on the drive to Bodega Bay because of the windy road, and the sheer cliffs we passed. I tend to get queasy in the car when I have to read or really pay attention to something.
Driving the Coastal Highway.
We _HAD_ to visit Bodega Bay!
We had dinner - fish & chips - at The Tides Restaurant.
OH NO! A bird!
(We saw about 3 birds on our trip to Bodega Bay!)
As always - these pictures are my property, unless otherwise marked.
